Exodus 24:17 The people of Israel saw the glory of the Lord. It looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain.

Dear Journal,

Today we drove to the mountains! The plan is to spend a few days here exploring. We don’t have mountains where we live so mountains are so awesome!

​

Tonight, we roasted marshmallows by the campfire. My marshmallow caught on fire! I had flaming marshmallow on a stick. Dad said to be careful. We didn’t want to start a fire on top of the mountain! He said I wasn’t Moses after all!

Dad was referring to the Old Testament days of course.

​

Exodus 24:17 says, “The people of Israel saw the glory of the Lord. It looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain.”

 

Back in those days the people could not see God face to face. God would appear to them in different forms like fire burning on top of a mountain.

​

Things sure are different now that Jesus came and died for us. Now when we put our faith in Jesus, God’s Spirit comes to live inside of us. The Israelites were never able to get that close to God. Jesus changed everything! He made a way for God’s Spirit to live in us so we could have a close relationship with God. That is better than any fire on a mountain!

​

I put the marshmallow fire out – and then I ate it! I like my marshmallows well done.
