Summer Road Trip!

Day 7

daily devotional for kids

Nehemiah 8:10 The joy of the Lord makes you strong.

Dear Journal,

It was a grouchy day. I was grouchy, Milo was grouchy, the sky was grouchy. I think even Posey was grouchy! I wasn’t getting along very well with Milo either. SATTAR and Posey sat in between Milo and I but we still somehow managed to fight! It was a driving day. We had to leave the mountains and spend the day driving to get to the next stop on our trip – the dinosaur park.

Dad read us this Bible verse from Nehemiah 8:10.

The joy of the Lord makes you strong.

Dad said that the difference between happiness and joy was that happiness came from our circumstances. We are happy when we are doing something fun or the day is going well. Joy comes from a positive attitude. We can have joy knowing that God is on our side and that things will all work out in the end.

Real joy comes from the Holy Spirit living inside us. When we stop focusing on outside situations and let God’s Spirit do his work, then the joy that God has placed in us helps us to be strong.

Even though the ride was long and it was raining, I decided to make the best of it. I pulled out my favorite joke book and read jokes to everyone. We all ended up laughing so hard that we had tears running down our faces!
