Easter is celebrated in many ways by many people! Some fill colorful baskets with chocolates in the shape of bunnies or chicks to give as gifts. Some hide candy or chocolate eggs to hunt for. Some decorate eggs with pretty colors. Some practice a tradition called Lent where they give up something important to them for a period of time. Some go to church on the Friday before Easter (called Good Friday).

It is fun to celebrate Easter with Easter bunnies and gifts of sweets. We celebrate Christmas by giving presents too. It is important to remember that the reason we celebrate Christmas is because Jesus, God’s Son, came to earth as a baby. In the same way it is important to remember that the reason we celebrate Easter is because Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin. This is what we remember on Good Friday. Jesus laid in his grave for three days. On the third day a miracle happened, and Jesus rose from the dead. This is what we celebrate on Easter Sunday! When Jesus rose from the dead, he conquered sin and death.

When we celebrate Easter, we should not forget that Jesus is the real reason we celebrate it! Easter is not just about spring and Easter bunnies and candies. The Bible tells us that because we all sin, everyone needs Jesus.

If we believe in what Jesus did for us on the cross, we are saved from the consequence of sin. Remember, Jesus is the Lamb of God. He takes away the sin of the world. This means we are forgiven of our sin and made friends with God again. Jesus is the only one who did that for us. This is why we celebrate Easter!
