Summer Road Trip!

Day 9

daily devotional for kids

Genesis 6:5 The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become. They only thought about evil things.

Dear Journal,

Today was our second day at the dinosaur museum. We went on a fossil hike in the hills behind the museum. A lot of the fossils that were displayed in the museum were found in those hills. I was sure that all the fossils would be gone by now, but we still found lots!

Sometimes it was hard to tell the difference between a rock and a fossil because the fossils were actually bones that had become rock!

The interpreter told us that the reason we could find so many bones in this area was because the light sand and soil acted like a protective blanket. Instead of rotting away, like they would have done if they were on the surface, the bones were protected by minerals in the soil and eventually became rocks themselves!

Dad said that it is possible that a great flood swept away the dinosaurs covering their bones with soil giving them a chance to become fossils. Well, we know that the earth saw a great flood! The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter 6.

The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become. They only thought about evil things. Genesis 6:5

God was very sad that people had become so sinful. He wanted to get rid of sin on earth, so he got Noah, a righteous man to save two of every kind of animal. He took the animals and his family into the ark when the flood came. Maybe somehow the dinosaurs didn’t make it onto the ark.

Scientists don’t know for sure how the dinosaurs disappeared from the earth. The Bible is the prefect place to start looking for answers though!

We couldn’t keep any of the fossils we found. I am glad we could buy some from the gift shop. I want to remember this part of the trip!
